Pharmacy Assistant Apprenticeship - 18 Months
This is an 18-month training post designed to give the trainee the experience and knowledge to work as a Pharmacy Assistant. It serves as a stepping stone to a wider career in Pharmacy. The trainee will be supported throughout training and work experience, learning to complete a range of tasks within specified timescales to a competent standard.
The successful candidate will undertake and complete the Pharmacy Assistant Apprentice Level 2 with an accredited provider, which involves developing a work-based portfolio with an assessor, undertaking assessments, completing assignments related to the Apprenticeship standard, and presenting evidence portfolios for assessment within set time frames.
Apprentices will rotate through the main sections of the Pharmacy Department, including Dispensary, Distribution, Stores, and Procurement, providing support to technical staff under supervision of the Section Manager(s). Applicants will be required to complete a numeracy and literacy test on the day of the interview.
Person Specification
* You will have a friendly and approachable personality, be willing to work as part of a team, and committed to providing excellent service to patients.
* You will need to be self-motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills. To qualify, you require GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent, along with good IT skills.
* You will have the opportunity to work across all main sections of the pharmacy department—dispensary, distribution, stores, procurement, and community services—assisting with dispensing prescriptions, supplying medicines to wards and departments, and helping with ordering, receiving, and checking medicines from external suppliers. Manual handling will be involved in Pharmacy Stores and Distribution.
* Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy is desirable, and on-the-job training will be provided.
* The post holder will be required to work towards obtaining a Level 2 pharmacy qualification via the apprenticeship route.
