Shift Pattern: Monday – Thursday 12pm (afternoon) -12pm (evening) and Wednesday -Saturday 6am-6pm on a 2-weekly rota

About the HGV Chargehand Role
My client is a large independent HGV Maintenance company with several depots around Scotland. They have been established for over 60 years and are constantly investing in their fleet ensuring the highest standards of working conditions. Their huge fleet consists of over 160 vehicles, over 500 trailers and tankers. They are currently seeking an experienced HGV Fleet Workshop Chargehand to join their busy workshop operation in Alloa.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for a skilled HGV technician looking to take the first step into becoming involved in a supervisory capacity, the role would involve around 70-80% of time being spent on the tools with the rest being involved with booking jobs and other supervisory duties.
Key Responsibilities of the HGV Chargehand
• Supervise and support a team of HGV technicians and apprentices
• Lead daily workshop operations, allocating jobs and managing workflow
• Carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
• Ensure vehicles are maintained in line with DVSA, MOT, and health & safety standards
• Oversee MOT preparation, inspections, and defect rectification
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and compliance
• Liaise with transport management to minimise vehicle downtime
• Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and technical support to the team
Requirements for the HGV Chargehand
• Proven experience as an HGV Technician or Workshop Supervisor/Chargehand
• Relevant qualifications (Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Knowledge of DVSA regulations and MOT standards
• Leadership experience or the confidence to step into a supervisory role
• Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities effectively
• IRTEC qualification (desirable but not essential)
• Full UK driving licence (HGV licence advantageous but not essential)
