Job summary

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join the paediatric nursing team here at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) as a Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).

You will be part of an established CNS team who provide specialist support, education, teaching and advice to patients, families and staff, both within the Primary Treatment Centre (PTC) here at CUH and throughout the East of England, including shared care hospitals. This role will also be part of a service that has expanded in order to offer a Bone Marrow Transplantation Service for Paediatrics here at CUH.

Your role will act as a key worker, ensuring smooth co-ordination of the child's cancer journey throughout the whole treatment trajectory and beyond. Your involvement with the child and all members of the team involved in the care pathway, will start at diagnosis and continue throughout the treatment period into follow up or transfer to other professional care teams if required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder needs to have extensive knowledge and experience of working within the field of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, at a senior nursing level and can understand and interpret protocols required for the child's treatment. Furthermore, you must be able to work independently and manage a defined caseload of patients. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will need to be able to work collaboratively with many members of the multidisciplinary team.

CUH is the PTC for children and young people with a diagnosis of cancer and is supported by dedicated Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units as well as a critical care transport team. This role will support Children's Services as we move into the future here at CUH with the development of Cambridge Children's Hospital.
