Job Overview
We are looking to recruit a full‑time Clinical Lead Optometrist (Band 8A) to work within St Paul's Eye Unit. This post will involve a range of patient‑facing activities with a particular focus on the delivery of cataract assessment.
Key Responsibilities
* Actively participate in the delivery and management of direct patient care
* Deliver patient care in at least one subspecialty within the unit
* Undertake clinical audit, research and teaching/training as necessary
* Coordinate service responsibilities ensuring timely, safe and quality care delivery
Qualifications and Experience
* Significant hospital optometry experience
* Higher qualifications relevant to the role (e.g., diploma or master’s in optometry or related field)
* Experience in clinical audit, research, and teaching/training is desirable
Team & Reporting
The post holder reports to the Principal Optometrist and will be part of a team of 5 Clinical Lead Optometrists and 20 Specialist Optometrists.
Location
This post is based at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and may also involve working at other Trust sites as necessary.

St Paul's Eye Unit is a division within Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It is a tertiary referral centre providing eye emergency, general ophthalmology services and all subspecialty services including ocular neurology, ocular plastics, ocular oncology, cornea, cataract, glaucoma, diabetic, and medical retinal care.
