SEN Teaching Assistant - Year 1 ASD Support Location: Islington (commutable from Finsbury Park, Highbury, Holloway, Canonbury, Upper Holloway) Pay: £95-£110 per day Start Date: September 2025 Contract: Full-time, long-term (Full Academic Year) Long Term Futures is partnering with a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Islington that is seeking a patient and energetic SEN Teaching Assistant to work in Year 1 with a non-verbal child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The role focuses on supporting high emotional regulation needs and building engagement through structured, responsive support. About the Role You will work primarily one-to-one with a pupil who experiences frequent meltdowns-though never physical-and benefits from consistent, calm support. Your day-to-day will include: Providing structured 1:1 and small group instruction using sensory and visual strategies Encouraging communication and independence through positive reinforcement Using behaviour management tactics to de-escalate and maintain calm Helping the pupil take part in classroom routines, transitions, and unstructured times Collaborating with the SENCo and teaching team to adapt learning and monitor progressIdeal Candidate Profile Experience supporting non-verbal children with ASD, particularly in Reception or Year 1 settings A calm, proactive, and optimistic demeanour; reliable, patient, and empathetic Strong behaviour support skills, including understanding of sensory strategies and non-verbal communication The ability to build trust and routine for children who rely on structure and consistencyWhy Work with Long Term Futures?
