We seek a Senior Theatre Practitioner with Major Orthopaedic Scrub experience to join our Theatre department. This is a full-time role, requiring flexibility to cover shifts Monday through Saturday.
Main duties
* Prepare and handle specialist instrumentation and equipment, including power tools, implants, and navigation systems, following manufacturer guidelines and surgical protocols.
* Assist the surgical and anaesthetic teams, anticipating needs and adapting during procedures.
* Lead in theatre preparation, surgical list coordination, and ensure availability of equipment, staff, and resources.
* Support the Theatre Manager with team briefings, scheduling, stock control, and patient flow management.
* Supervise junior practitioners, ODPs, and healthcare assistants, providing clinical guidance.
* Identify and escalate risks; participate in audits and incident reviews.
* Collaborate with consultants, anaesthetists, recovery staff, and ward teams to ensure continuity of care and excellent patient experience.

As a senior scrub practitioner, you will:
* Lead in orthopaedic procedures including joint replacements, arthroscopies, trauma, and spinal surgeries.
* Handle specialist instrumentation and assist during surgeries.
* Coordinate theatre activities, ensure resource availability, and support team leadership.
* Champion safety protocols, infection control, and clinical governance.
* Mentor and train junior staff and students, supporting professional development.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and theatre performance.
What do you have?
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
* Extensive perioperative and orthopaedic surgery experience, including complex cases like TKR, THR, shoulder replacements, ACL.
* Leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
* Knowledge of clinical governance, infection control, and safety practices.
* Experience with robotic-assisted surgery or navigation tools (preferred).
* Mentorship or teaching qualification and ILS/ALS certification.
