Communications Producer - The Auxiliary Project Space

Contract: 2-year Fixed-Term

Probation: 6 months

Time: 3 days/week

Salary: FTE £25,350 / Pro-rata £18,928

This is an office-based role in Middlesbrough, UK

Job Description

You will be responsible for key aspects that ensure the smooth operation of our public profile and audience engagement across digital, social, and professional platforms. You should have experience in marketing and digital publishing, including website management, social media, content creation, and asset management. Experience within art organizations or festivals, including freelancing, is preferred to engage and develop audiences and impact.

Responsibilities

* Support development and delivery of marketing strategies aligned with our vision, mission, and Arts Council England Investment Principles.
* Create, publish, and disseminate content promoting artistic activities.
* Manage the Auxiliary, Middlesbrough Art Week & Sonic Arts Week websites.
* Oversee the Auxiliary Archive, adding and cataloguing content.
* Act as liaison with local, regional, and press contacts to promote activities.
* Work with the Artistic Director to set and monitor audience targets.
* Coordinate with the Executive Director on marketing budgets and audience development strategies.
* Maximize audience engagement through campaigns and advertising.
* Produce content such as copy, images, audio, and video.
* Manage advertising, listings, and print schedules.
* Liaise with artists for marketing support.
* Analyze data to evaluate and refine marketing approaches.
* Maintain and update website content.
* Create and distribute publicity materials.
* Stay updated on arts marketing practices and attend relevant training.
* Coordinate with photographers and videographers as needed.
* Attend scheduled staff meetings.
* Follow policies on Health and Safety, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
* Provide regular reports to the Executive Director.
* Promote and advertise the venue rental space when available.

Person Specification (Essential)

* Experience in marketing campaigns for multi-event programs like festivals.
* Ability to develop systems supporting marketing targets.
* Strong communication and influence skills.
* Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Flexibility and resilience under pressure.
* UK driving license and own transport (occasional driving reimbursed).
* Willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed, with TOIL provided.

Desirable

* At least three years’ experience in festivals, arts organizations, or events management.
* Knowledge of visual art programming spaces and festivals.

The Auxiliary Project Space, established in 2017, is a leading artist-led organization in the North East, supporting artists and arts development. It became a National Portfolio Organisation for Arts Council England in 2023. Our work includes exhibitions, commissions, advocacy, and artist development to support the arts ecology in the Tees Valley and North East.
