IT Field Engineer Apprentice (Job Ref: 85701) – Level 4 higher apprenticeship. Closing date: 18/05/2026. Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum.
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Schools ICT Engineer to provide on-site technical support across a portfolio of primary and/or secondary schools. This role ensures each school’s ICT systems, devices, and infrastructure remain reliable, secure, and fully operational to support teaching and learning.
Responsibilities
* Attend scheduled full‑day or half‑day on‑site visits at assigned schools.
* Carry out routine system maintenance checks, including network health, hardware checks, updates, backups, and security reviews.
* Resolve open helpdesk tickets, ensuring timely and accurate technical support for staff and students.
* Respond to ad‑hoc IT requests raised during on‑site visits, including device troubleshooting, software support, and classroom technology issues.
* Install, configure, and maintain school ICT equipment such as laptops, desktops, tablets, interactive whiteboards, printers, and network devices.
* Troubleshoot issues related to Wi‑Fi, access points, servers, cloud services, and classroom technology.
* Adhere to safeguarding, data protection, and school policies at all times.
Required Skills
* Proven experience working within the education sector supporting ICT systems.
* Strong technical knowledge of Windows devices, Microsoft 365, networking, and general IT troubleshooting.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work independently across multiple school sites.
* Ability to pass and maintain an enhanced DBS check.
* Professional, friendly, and approachable.
* Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
* Reliable, punctual, and committed to delivering high‑quality service.
* Able to manage workload effectively across multiple sites.
* Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel between schools (essential).
Additional Experience Beneficial
* Experience with school MIS platforms and classroom management technologies.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and ICT best practices in education settings.
* Familiarity with Apple devices, Chromebooks, and MDM platforms.
Entry Requirements
* an A‑Level in ICT
* or an International Baccalaureate at Level 3 ICT
* or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
* or a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits)
You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.
Working Hours
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9 am – 5 pm with a 30 minute lunch break. Time off in lieu available for any additional hours worked.
