Summary
* Support the Customs Manager with day-to-day supervision of the customs team, ensuring workloads are allocated and managed effectively.
* Assist with staff rotas to ensure appropriate coverage aligned with transport schedules and operational demand.
* Act as a first point of escalation for routine team queries and operational issues.
* Provide on the job coaching, mentoring and support to team members, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
* Support performance conversations, training plans and development reviews in line with company processes.
· Co-ordinate daily customs activities to support smooth import and export movements, working closely with Transport & Customer Service teams.
· Act as a key liaison between customs, transport planning, warehouse and customer service functions.
· Communicate clearly with internal teams and customers regarding shipment status, documentation requirements and potential delays.
· Escalate complex or non-routine customs issues to the Customs Manager
· Oversee accurate completion and submission of customs documentation prepared by the team, following established procedures.
· Ensure customs processes align with transport plans to minimise delays and maximise service performance.
· Support the implementation of process improvements within the customs operation.
· Maintain accurate records and support audit readiness in line with company and regulatory requirements.
· Undertake structured training to develop customs knowledge and regulatory understanding.
· Keep up to date with internal procedures, systems and operational changes.
· Actively contribute ideas to improve team efficiency, service levels and compliance
· Support the Customs Manager with ad-hoc projects and operational tasks.
· Undertake any additional reasonable duties that support the efficiency and effectiveness of the customs and transport operation.
Essential Criteria:
* Experience within a transport, logistics or supply chain environment (e.g. Transport Planner, Operations Coordinator).
· Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads.
· Confident communicator with the ability to work across multiple departments.
· High attention to detail and strong administrative skills.
· Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
· Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
Desirable Criteria
· Proven experience in a team leader, supervisor or senior operational role.
· Previous exposure to customs processes or international freight operations.
· Experience working in a fast-paced, time-critical operational environment.
· Willingness to undertake professional development in customs compliance.
