About You
We are looking for someone who is personable, self‑starter with the ability to project a positive ‘can‑do’ professional attitude at all times, maintaining good working relationships. Someone who enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines, is able to establish excellent working rapport within the team, business and with clients, and can work under pressure, handle a varied workload and keep to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest level of technical excellence.
Primary Objective
To manage effectively large‑scale multidisciplinary teams on substations for mission‑critical projects, carry out sales and business development activities actively to support business growth and to ensure projects are delivered technically correct and on time, whilst maintaining the target profit level. Promote cross‑selling amongst the disciplines and liaise with other Senior Directors.
Responsibilities
* Project Management – As Project Director take full responsibility and accountability for project performance (Technical, Programme and Commercial) for all disciplines that fall under the Lead consultant role.
* Financial Performance Reviews – Accountable on a monthly basis for the Project Job Costing Reports, reported Profit and Sales Figure, and provide a quarterly written board report. Accountable for reviewing and acting on input received.
* Sales Management/Business Development – Maintain regular contact with clients, build and foster relationships, entertain clients and relevant colleagues, agree fee basis and monthly draw‑down schedules, agree deliverables directly with the client and any policy decisions, lead presentations for new projects, coordinate all disciplines, carry out invoicing, pursue outstanding sales ledger debtors, progress sales opportunities, ensure profit targets, and handle formal complaints and after‑sales reviews.
* General Duties – Manage and control resources on projects, ensure technical compliance and quality production of all deliverables, sign off reports, attend client meetings, ensure deadlines are met, liaise with all team members to meet profit targets, record scope changes, conduct post‑contract reviews, support design responsibilities, assist other Directors in project delivery, structure training and succession plans, support quality management systems, and perform other duties delegated by senior management.
Skills And Experience
* BEng, MSc or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a relevant subject.
* Minimum 10 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 765kV preferred.
* Experience monitoring contract staff or third‑party appointments desirable.
* Skills in managing on‑going jobs and experience in a similar or comparable position.
* Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
* Positive, professional attitude at all times.
* Incorporated status in the chosen discipline preferred; pursuit of Chartered status and business qualifications encouraged.
* Knowledge of appropriate project and design analysis software.
* Ability to establish rapport and good working relationships within the team and with clients.
* Strong leadership and people‑management skills and experience.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
* 15 years related experience.
* Minimum 7 years project management experience.
* MS Office and MS Project experience required (Access experience is a plus).
* Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills.
