Job Summary
Outpatients services are delivered across multiple locations including Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, William Harvey Hospital Ashford, Kent & Canterbury Hospital, Buckland Hospital Dover, Royal Victoria Hospital Folkestone and Estuary View. The Senior Sister role is the key supporting function to the Senior Matron to enable the optimal care of our outpatients and the Trust. The delivery of a high, effective and compassionate care is the most important role within the organisation.
Outpatients Services are delivered between 8am and 6pm Monday - Friday, but there may be future requirements to support evening and weekend clinics.
Responsibilities
* Provide an effective role model by demonstrating high standards of professional behaviour in accordance with the NMC code.
* Ensure the use and participate in the ongoing development of the Orbit and other electronic systems.
* Work in close liaison with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Participate in quality and audit initiatives within the department.
* Provide professional leadership, advice and guidance to nursing staff and healthcare assistants within the nursing environment and foster collaborative partnerships with other disciplines.
* Maintain a safe and acceptable environment for patients, visitors, students and staff, reporting and taking appropriate action on any hazards, incidents, faulty equipment or inadequate standards of cleaning, and coordinate the reporting of all such incidents for the area in liaison with Senior Matron.
* Ensure that all patients use the outpatients department service in a timely manner, ensuring equality, privacy and dignity needs are met.
Qualifications
* Education: Educated to masters level or equivalent experience.
* Desirable: Evidence of managerial skills.
* Experience: 3 years’ experience as a Band 6 in a hospital setting.
* Desirable: 5 years post registration experience in a variety of acute settings.
* Experience: Budget management.
* Desirable: Business case production.
* Governance: Clinical governance & risk management issues.
* Desirable: Experience of service/quality improvement.
