Description Organisation: Defence Equipment & Support Salary: £24,600 per annum (plus generous benefits) Grade: Technical Specialist I Working Pattern: Full time, Flexible Working Contract Type: Permanent At Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), we supply and maintain vital equipment and services for the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. Job description We’re looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team at Defence Munitions (DM) Gosport as an Engineering Support Operative. Defence Munitions Receive, Store, Maintain & Issue a wide range of munitions that are used by the UK armed forces to train, protect, and serve anywhere in the world. Our Defence Munitions staff work closely with DE&S project teams and front-line commands to ensure our troops have the right items at the right time. We work as an important part of the wider MoD establishment that supports, procures, and supplies our troops, providing them with a range of munitions from bullets, shells, and flares up to and including and complex weapons such as high-calibre ammunition and guided or targeted weapons. The role requires a multi-skilled operator who will normally work under supervision. You’ll have a level of competence in non-technical skills required to support general tasks undertaken within processing areas, including the use of IT systems. Supporting a multi-skilled team, you will assist in meeting production targets with due regard to safety, time, cost and quality. You will follow procedures and policies to conduct inspections, unpacking, repacking and marking activities, control of consumables, handling (using Mechanical Handling Equipment) and general support as required to processing on site. You will display a proactive approach to risk management and strict adherence to Safe Systems of Work. You will also contribute to team decisions and support other colleagues. This is an entry level position where you’ll receive comprehensive training to develop your skill set and the experience to equip you for a successful career with us. Please note the following: This role is 100% site based, with some travel to our other sites being necessary. A sustenance allowance is provided. Applicants must be over 18 years old to apply, due to the Explosive Handling Regulations. A full medical check is required before taking up the post, and the job offer will be contingent on its outcome. The standard hours for this role are 37 hours a week, Monday – Thursday 7:30 – 4:15, and on Friday 7:30 – 12:30. What you’ll be doing Ensuring Items are handled in a safe and efficient manner to comply with Safe Systems of Work, including authorised procedures, risk assessments, manual handling, Care Of Substances Hazardous and serve as Health (COSHH) and MoD explosives regulations. Maintaining a high standard of security, cleanliness and housekeeping within the workshop environment. Carrying out and recording on check sheets that pre and post use checks have been made to ensure equipment is serviceable and safe to operate. Contributing to site safety and conducting servicing tasks as per the processing/production schedule. Maintenance & remarking of weapon containers in accordance with approved specs. Person specification To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria : Basic IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office tools.
