About us
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact not only on road safety, but also on the life moments that can only be enjoyed when people can easily travel to their destinations. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission, helping to ensure people get their driving future off to a great start. We are looking for proactive, friendly, safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.
Training and Development
We will provide all the training you need. Your training will begin online, followed by practical training at a local test centre. After completing this phase, you will receive up to three weeks of guidance at one of our regional training facilities before starting your career, where you will assess the readiness of drivers seeking to secure their licences.
Responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, you will meet people from all walks of life and oversee seven driving examinations a day. You will use exceptional people skills to calm nervous candidates, guide them through your instructions, record results on a tablet, and determine whether they meet the required standards. You must deliver outcomes with tact and diplomacy, both positive and negative.
Qualifications
You must be a safe driver holding a UK or EU driving licence for at least three years, with no more than three penalty points. A good knowledge of the highway code and correct road procedures is required. You should have strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusivity, and be calm and unflappable under pressure. Team spirit, friendliness and a passion for setting standards that drivers will uphold for years to come are essential.
Benefits
We offer an excellent work‑life balance through flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave, all public holidays and an extra privilege day to mark the King’s birthday. An employer contribution to your pension of up to 27% is also included. Ongoing training and development opportunities, a deeply satisfying career and supportive environment are part of your package.
Call to Action
If you are ready to embark on an interesting career where no two days will ever present the same experiences, then don't hesitate to get in touch.
