Design & Production Engineer
Location: Northamptonshire
Overview
Our client is an independent company supplying design and manufacturing of powertrain components to OEM automotive customers. The company has recently expanded to a new purpose‑designed production facility and received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
Responsibilities
* Concept & Feasibility: develop innovative powertrain systems from prototype to production.
* Prototype Development & Validation: design, build and validate prototypes.
* Pre‑Production & Industrialisation: plan and manage industrialisation activities.
* Production Launch & Continuous Improvement: finalise designs for production release and lead process capability.
* Design: create detailed CAD models and drawings using CATIA V5, prepare FMEA and manufacturing feasibility studies, and define process flows and SOPs.
* Manufacturing: plan and manage prototype builds, review first‑off parts, ensure routings and process changes are updated in ERP systems.
Candidate Requirements
* Strong mechanical, manufacturing or production engineering knowledge.
* Proficient in CATIA V5.
* Good understanding of production processes, tooling design and DFM principles.
* Familiarity with APQP, PFMEA, control plans, IATF 16949 and lean manufacturing methods.
* Hands‑on approach to engineering and good team player.
