Business Development Manager – Advanced Materials
Remote – anywhere in the UK
This role offers the opportunity to be at the commercial forefront of a breakthrough materials technology as it transitions from technical validation into real-world deployment.
The Business Development Manager will work with technically capable customers on problems that matter, shaping how metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are evaluated, adopted, and integrated across multiple industries.
For someone experienced in complex, solution-led sales, this role provides autonomy, influence, and visibility, along with the chance to help define new markets rather than simply compete in established ones.
The position offers meaningful collaboration with senior technical and commercial leaders, including direct partnership with the Commercial Director on high-impact opportunities.
The role
This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role focused on progressing complex, technically informed commercial opportunities from early interest into credible, well-defined outcomes.
Promethean receives a wide range of enquiries, including:
* Academic and R&D groups looking to manufacture MOFs beyond lab scale
* Engineering-led organisations and EPCs exploring MOFs as a new chemical within complex systems
* Industrial companies assessing MOFs for applications such as carbon capture, gas separation and upgrading, water harvesting, energy storage, and related areas
Your role is to bring structure, judgement, and momentum to this demand. Day to day, that means:
* Qualifying and prioritising inbound enquiries to identify those with genuine technical and commercial potential
* Engaging early with customers to understand their systems, constraints, and objectives, often where applications and requirements are still evolving
* Working closely with Promethean's technical teams to shape credible use cases, trial scopes, and pathways to industrial evaluation and adoption
* Progressing opportunities through multi-stage, multi-stakeholder processes, including evaluations, pilots, development agreements, and longer-term commercial frameworks
* Making pragmatic decisions about where to invest time and effort, and where not to
You will work closely with the Commercial Director, who leads the largest and most strategic customer relationships, while independently owning and progressing a portfolio of earlier-stage or mid-sized opportunities.
This is not a volume-driven sales role. Success comes from quality of engagement, clarity of thinking, and credibility with industry-leading customers.
Who this role is for
This role will suit someone who is comfortable operating in complex, engineering-led commercial environments, where solutions are not fully defined at the outset.
In practice, this role tends to work best for people who have experience:
* Selling into EPC organisations, engineering contractors, or system integrators
* Working in or alongside speciality chemicals, advanced materials, or process technology businesses
* Managing longer, exploratory sales cycles involving multiple technical and commercial stakeholders
You are likely to be comfortable:
* Engaging with senior engineers, scientists, and commercial leaders as peers
* Selling where the customer is still shaping the problem, not just selecting a supplier
* Collaborating closely with technical teams to develop realistic, credible solutions
* Operating with ambiguity and exercising judgement rather than following a fixed sales playbook
You do not need prior experience with MOFs. You do need commercial seriousness, technical curiosity, and the ability to operate credibly with experienced, demanding customers.
