Offer description

Dorset Mental Health Support Teams in Schools are seeking individuals interested in undertaking the Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) (Band 4) training across two of our sites: Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and Weymouth, Portland and West Dorset.

The Mental Health Support Teams work with children, young people, and their families to improve mental health and wellbeing in various education settings. We serve all age groups and have established strong partnerships.

Employment requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover. Applicants subscribed to the DBS update service can present a valid certificate instead of a new check.

As a trainee EMHP, you will undertake a year-long course at Exeter University, combining face-to-face and online teaching, including a 3-month in-person session in Exeter starting October 2025.

After 3 months, you will begin working within the teams a few days a week, applying your learning while completing assignments. The remaining week will be dedicated to university teaching. These funded training posts start at Band 4 and will progress to Band 5 upon qualification.

The role involves delivering Low Intensity CBT interventions to support the mental wellbeing of children and young people in various educational settings. You will manage a caseload and provide short-term, evidence-based interventions to children, families, and young people.

You will also assist in implementing the whole school approach, including delivering sessions to classes and teachers, and liaising with schools, families, local authorities, and other organizations to respond effectively to local needs.

At Dorset Health Care, our mission is to empower individuals to make the most of their lives through outstanding, integrated healthcare services. We operate 12 community hospitals, specialist inpatient facilities, and a broad range of community and mental health services for nearly 800,000 people.

Our 7,000-strong workforce is central to our success. We are committed to building an inclusive, diverse workplace where everyone is valued and encouraged to be their authentic selves. We believe in equal opportunities and celebrating diversity.

Joining us means being part of a strong team, challenging yourself, building a career, and contributing to our vision of continuous improvement through excellence, compassion, and expertise.

For detailed duties and responsibilities, please refer to the attached job description and person specification. When applying, ensure your supporting statement addresses the criteria outlined in these documents by demonstrating how your experience and skills relate to this role.

Dorset HealthCare partners with The Prince’s Trust to support employment initiatives for individuals aged 16-30, offering assistance with application writing, interview skills, and other employment support services.

This advert closes on Thursday, 5 June 2025.
