Location: Swansea Health Board Headquarters, with travel to other Trust sites within the health board area as necessary
Time Commitment: 2-3 Days a Month Remuneration: Unpaid (expenses reimbursed)

We at Swansea Bay University Health Board are seeking an Associate Member - Inclusion and Belonging to join our Board. This is a unique opportunity for someone with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) to help shape our strategic direction and build on our strategic equality plan "We All Belong," ensuring that inclusion is embedded in everything we do in our Health Board.
Main duties of the job
About the Role
This is a non-voting role, and you will:
* Act as a critical friend to the Board on matters of inclusion and belonging
* Contribute to strategic discussions and decision-making
* Help us challenge assumptions and bring fresh perspectives
* Support the development of inclusive policies and practices
* Champion the voices of underrepresented communities
Who We're Looking For
You may already have board-level experience or be looking for an opportunity to gain such experience and have the potential and drive to be a future Independent Member. Either way, you will be able to demonstrate:
* A strong understanding of and commitment to inclusion, equity, and belonging
* The ability to think strategically and contribute to high-level discussions
* Confidence to challenge constructively and offer new ideas
* Lived experience or professional expertise in EDI-related work
* A collaborative and values-driven approach

Person Specification
Experience & Knowledge
* A clear commitment to the NHS in Swansea Bay and the health board's values, role modeling them at all times.
* Middle to senior management experience in the private, public, or voluntary sector.
* Robust understanding of good governance principles and practices.
* Sincere interest in and ability to gain credibility with patients, staff, senior leaders, stakeholders, clinicians, and communities.
* Strong connection to or understanding of the communities served, especially those of hard-to-reach groups.
* Experiences and challenges of younger people, those with lived experience of mental health issues, or living with disabilities.
* An understanding of and commitment to equality and inclusion.
* The ability to self-reflect and a willingness to learn about the health board and the wider health sector.
Aptitude and abilities
* Demonstrate a genuine commitment to patients and promoting excellent healthcare services.
* Uphold high standards of conduct, demonstrating selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership aligned with the health board values.
