We’re seeking a resilient and enthusiastic teacher to join an Alternative Provision/PRU setting in Southend-on-Sea. This full-time contract role starts immediately and offers the chance to support young people who’ve faced significant challenges in their educational journey. You’ll be teaching small groups of students in a highly supportive environment, where creativity, flexibility, and empathy are just as important as subject knowledge. Experience in PRUs or SEMH settings is desirable, but what we really value is the ability to connect, engage, and make maths meaningful to students who may have struggled in traditional classrooms. Key Responsibilities: Deliver engaging and differentiated maths lessons to KS3 and KS4 pupils. Support students working towards functional skills and GCSE qualifications. Use creative approaches to re-engage learners and promote a love of learning. Build strong, trusting relationships with students who have complex needs. Implement effective behaviour management using positive and restorative approaches. Contribute to student EHCP reviews, academic reports, and collaborative planning. Work closely with support staff and external agencies to ensure student progress. Qualifications and Experience: QTS or relevant teaching qualification (essential). Experience teaching maths in an AP, PRU, or SEMH setting (desirable). Strong behaviour management and a calm, compassionate approach. Ability to differentiate lessons to meet individual needs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed practice. Passion for helping disengaged learners build confidence and skills.
