Rate of Pay £13.45 to £15.27 per hour
Location: Mastercall Healthcare main base in Hazel Grove, Stockport. We work on a two-week rota and have shifts available in the evening Monday to Friday 18:30-23:00, Saturday and Sunday from 08:00-13:00, 13:00-18:00, and 18:00-23:00.
You must have permanent right to work in the UK. No visa sponsorship or extensions are offered for this role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work under the supervision of the clinical team and undertake delegated duties. They will work collaboratively with the team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures to deliver high quality responsive care. The primary responsibility will be to provide an initial assessment of patients attending the service, including confirmation of identity and presenting complaint, determination of appropriate clinical stream and priority. They will undertake vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, oxygen saturation, blood glucose and urinalysis) as required and liaise with senior clinicians on duty for urgent assessment.
Job responsibilities
* Support to the clinicians on duty
* A range of clinical tasks such as recording vital signs, blood sugar recording and urinalysis as needed
* Following appropriate training, undertake point of care testing (POCT) as directed by assessing clinicians
* Chaperoning duties when needed
* After appropriate training, conduct face-to-face navigation assessment for patients presenting with arrival slots and walk-in patients
* Preparation and maintenance of clinical areas including appropriate stock control
* Record the tasks for which you have received appropriate training using electronic systems
* Use an appropriate warning score (e.g., NEWS2) to ensure a deteriorating patient is escalated to the appropriate senior person in a timely manner in accordance with policy and procedure
* Give accurate and appropriate information to patients, relatives and colleagues within the sphere of own competence
* Administer Basic Life Support and use of AED if necessary
* Support health professionals in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being
* Support health professionals with awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
* Assist with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
* Proactively communicate with the team to ensure the smooth running of the shift
* Be responsible for prioritisation of consultations as clinically indicated within the shift
* Work with colleagues to maximise effective and efficient delivery of care to patients
* Record appropriate consultation details on electronic patient records
* Liaise with other local services such as the urgent care centre (UCC) should patients require transfer to these services
* Follow Mastercall's policies and procedures
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication
* Communicate effectively with other team members and with the wider Mastercall teams
Continuous Professional Development
The post holder will be expected to undertake ongoing personal, clinical and professional development in line with the responsibilities of the post. Responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, management and skills (as appropriate) and professional awareness, maintaining a professional profile, and complying with mandatory training.
Experience
* 2 years previous experience working in primary care or other relevant acute healthcare environment in appropriate services such as A&E, UTC or primary care with patient contact
* Experience working under indirect supervision
* Familiarity with measuring and recording baseline observations such as blood pressure
* Demonstrates an understanding of the role of the HCA
* Clinical skills and competency relevant to the role
* Computer literate with evidence of IT skills
* Understand issues regarding accountability and delegation
* Knowledge of triage/navigation
Qualifications
* Permanent right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship)
* NVQ3 level 3 Health & Social care or equivalent
* Additional clinical skills training
* GCSE in Maths & English grade 4 or other certificates of general education
* Up to date Basic Life Support training
