Offer description

As a graduate joining National Gas, it’s an inspiring environment where you know your work will directly contribute to keeping the nation’s energy secure today, whilst building a more sustainable, net-zero energy system for tomorrow. Joining our Major Programmes team, you'll have an amazing opportunity to work alongside experts across the UK, who every day, are developing plans for the future. You’ll be part of the engine behind some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile energy projects. This part of the business is responsible for delivering large-scale initiatives, from new compressor builds and control system upgrades to pipeline diversions and hydrogen/CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation and storage) projects, safely, on time, and on budget. As a graduate, you’ll step into a dynamic and collaborative environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities. From designing infrastructure to implementing cutting-edge technologies, you’ll work closely with regional teams, suppliers, and enabling functions like Engineering, Supply Chain, and Commercial to keep projects moving and deliver real impact. This exposure across the full project lifecycle will show you how innovation and teamwork drive success. Along the way, you’ll develop high-level project management knowledge and practical skills, both technical and interpersonal, that will prepare you to oversee projects at National Gas. We’ll equip you to strategically and financially manage small and large-scale initiatives, ensuring they meet their targets. By the end of the programme, you’ll be confident in understanding stakeholder needs, building strong relationships, and applying ethical, professional practices to deliver results. You might be interacting with contractors, collaborating internally and externally on report submissions, liaising with stakeholders and communities or perhaps developing new styles of presentation to bring to life National Gas’s performance narrative. For you to thrive in this scheme, a keen interest in future energy systems and sustainability will be invaluable, as we’re looking for individuals determined to drive change and shape the future of our company. You’ll bring strong commercial awareness and enjoy applying that mindset to real-world challenges. Communication is key, you’ll interact with contractors and project teams on site, building relationships with people from all backgrounds and levels across the business. This role is hands-on, so you’ll need to be eager to get out and about, visit our sites across the UK, and learn from skilled professionals. It’s perfect for someone naturally curious, ready to step out of their shell, and excited to share ideas while challenging existing ones. You’ll take pride in your work, be proactive, and thrive on getting stuck in to make a real impact. We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply. Over the course of this 18-month programme, after your initial induction, you’ll move through three six-month placements. Each rotation will immerse you in different teams within our Major Programmes function, giving you a breadth of experience and a diverse skillset to launch your career. You’ll work across key disciplines such as Pipelines, Compressions, Control Systems, and Hydrogen & CCUS, gaining a deep understanding of how these areas come together to deliver complex, large-scale projects. Along the way, you’ll develop expertise in Programme Management, Project Management, Contract Management, and Supply Chain Management. By building strong networks and sharpening your skills, you’ll be equipped to make an informed decision about where you want to take your future within National Gas. Possibility of a full time role at the end of the scheme You’ll need a degree in a relevant area. It could be anything related to: • Business • Project management • Engineering disciplines • Construction
