Heacham Group Practice is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on a part time basis and we are looking for someone to work approximately 20 hours per week. As a HCA you will work under the supervision of our nurses and GPs to provide safe, effective and patient-centred care. You will support the M ain duties of the role: Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately. Wound care and dressings, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks, ECGs. Administering of vaccinations (if qualified). Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session. Update patient health records. Ensure that medical supplies are in stock. Act as a chaperone where required. Assist GP during the performance of minor operations. Communicate with patients, relatives, and carers including providing valuable health promotion and education. NHS healthchecks and anticoagulation clinic. Supporting infection control and health and safety protocols. About the Candidate The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we would welcome applications from those with previous primary care experience. All applicants should ensure that they live within reasonable commuting distance. All applicants should have the following skills and qualifications: Qualifications and experience - these are a requirement to be considered for the role: HCA Course specific to general practice or willingness to undertake. Experience of working within a GP practice. Essential knowledge, skills and experience: Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy. Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills. Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues. Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong organisational and time management skills. Good IT skills and accuracy in record keeping.
