About Hollis

Hollis is an independent real estate consultancy working with owners, occupiers, developers, and funders across both private and public sectors. We deliver a wide range of services including Building Surveying, Project Management, M&E, Environmental, Fire Safety, and Health & Safety/CDM.

Role Overview

As a Clerk of Works within our Quality, Safety, Health and Environment team, you will play a critical role in ensuring construction projects meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and safety. You will act as the eyes and ears on site, providing impartial inspections and reporting to ensure that works are carried out in accordance with specifications, regulations, and best practice.

This role will work closely with Project Managers, Building Surveyors, and Fire Engineers/Safety Consultants to ensure a joined-up approach to risk mitigation and quality assurance across Hollis projects.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction quality, workmanship, and adherence to specifications.
* Identify and report defects, non-compliance, and health & safety risks, ensuring timely resolution.
* Liaise with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure CDM and H&S obligations are met.
* Maintain detailed records of inspections, findings, and corrective actions.
* Collaborate with Building Surveyors and Project Managers to ensure design intent is realised on site.
* Provide technical input during pre-construction and construction phases.
* Assist in the development of internal quality assurance protocols and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Skills and Experience

* Proven experience in a Clerk of Works or site inspection role, ideally within a consultancy environment.
* Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
* Demonstrable experience in fabric inspection and fire safety compliance, including familiarity with passive fire protection systems and fire stopping.
* Working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and Health & Safety legislation.
* Excellent communication and reporting skills.
* Ability to work independently and impartially.
* Relevant qualifications (e.g. ICWCI membership, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, HNC/HND in Construction or similar).

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

This role will naturally intersect with other Hollis services:

* Building Surveying: Ensuring that survey recommendations are implemented correctly during refurbishment or remedial works.
* Project Management: Supporting PMs with on-site verification and progress reporting.
* Fire Safety: Identifying fire safety risks and ensuring compliance with fire strategy during construction.
* Environmental and M&E: Flagging sustainability or services-related issues that may impact performance or compliance.
* Health and Safety: Flagging safety concerns for attention by the principal contractor.
