An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a visionary and experienced Head of Science to join a thriving and "Good" rated secondary school in Slough. This is a full-time, permanent position for a strategic leader who is passionate about driving academic excellence, mentoring staff, and inspiring a love for scientific enquiry across all key stages.

The Role As the Head of Science, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and daily management of the Science department. You will lead a team of specialist teachers and technicians, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive, and challenging curriculum across KS3, KS4, and KS5.

Your focus will be on maintaining and exceeding the school’s "Good" status by implementing rigorous assessment frameworks, coaching staff to deliver "Outstanding" lessons, and monitoring student progress to ensure high value-added outcomes. You will oversee the development of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics pathways, ensuring that the department remains at the forefront of STEM education in the region.

Key Responsibilities

* Strategic Leadership: Defining and implementing a clear vision for the Science department that aligns with whole-school improvement goals.

* Curriculum Innovation: Overseeing the design and delivery of a modern, practical-led curriculum that engages students of all abilities.

* Staff Development: Managing, mentoring, and performing appraisals for a team of teachers and technicians, fostering a culture of professional growth.

* Data & Progress: Tracking and analysing student attainment data to identify trends and implement effective intervention strategies.

* Resource Management: Managing the departmental budget and ensuring laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge technology and materials.

* Extracurricular Impact: Leading on STEM initiatives, university partnerships, and Science-focused enrichment programmes.

Person Specification

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with significant experience teaching Science at KS3–KS5.

* A proven track record of middle leadership or significant departmental responsibility.

* A strong degree in a Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).

* Evidence of consistently "Outstanding" classroom practice.

* The ability to motivate a team and manage change effectively.

* A deep understanding of current GCSE and A-Level specifications and assessment requirements.
