An exciting opportunity has arisen where we require two dedicated and enthusiastic Data and Information Assurance Officers to join our expanding team.

Role Overview

We are looking for proactive, highly motivated and organised individuals to join our team and support our Information Assurance, Information Risk Management, and Security functions. In this role, you will help ensure compliance with Data Protection Principles by identifying, reducing, and eliminating risks, including those related to cyber threats, in line with relevant legislation, standards, and accreditations.

You will play a key part in developing and implementing policies and strategies that not only meet legal and national requirements but also enhance our service delivery and support the achievement of our corporate and departmental business plans. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real impact while developing your career in a supportive and forward‑thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Interrogate relevant IT systems and other force information to conduct transaction validation audits, measuring compliance with Data Protection legislation (Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR).
* Support the Data and Information Assurance Manager and associated functions in delivering the annual security plan.
* Prepare regular data reports and updates relating to Information Assurance workstreams.
* Conduct in‑depth research into security and data‑related incidents, working with internal and external stakeholders. Apply critical thinking and make independent decisions at all levels of complexity, ensuring alignment with legislation and standards.
* Act as a point of contact for queries, advice, and guidance on security and assurance matters, including those from internal teams, external bodies, and members of the public.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased productivity. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records, including Standard Operating Procedures, training materials, and guidance documents. Communicate relevant data and information updates across the organisation.
* Develop and deliver training and awareness initiatives both within the team and across the wider organisation.
* Manage your own caseload, ensuring timely and high‑quality information input in line with required standards. Meet service level agreements when investigating security and data‑related incidents and provide support and reporting for risk mitigation activities.

Qualifications

* Proven IT skills and experience of working with computer packages, office systems, databases and procedures.
* Recent proven and relevant experience of working within an audit environment and/or experience of working with complex datasets.
* Can demonstrate a good working knowledge, application and understanding of information assurance, security and risk management standards and legislation.
* Is able to demonstrate research skills and techniques, as well as the ability to use the research as an aid to decision making using the National Decision Model and Code of Ethics.
* Has demonstrated a continued commitment to customer satisfaction and delivering within statutory and local deadlines.
* Able to demonstrate good numeracy, communication, both written and verbal and literacy skills.

West Yorkshire Police is committed to improving the diversity of its workforce to better reflect the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all minority groups and individuals who identify with one or more of the protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010. Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last five years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.
