The role of an Underwriting Team Leader within Zurich Municipal is to lead, motivate and develop a team of Market Underwriters to deliver a high-quality service that surpasses expectations. You will create a team environment to successfully achieve our customer, operational and financial commitments and being a team player yourself, you will obtain/retain your own underwriting empowerment and be prepared to manage key customer relationships as needed.
Your day-to-day role will see you working within and outside of your immediate team, engaging with a broad range of stakeholders across our organisation and with key external partners.

What will you be doing?
1. Lead and role model an Underwriting culture to go above and beyond for our customers, by being creative and dynamic with our thinking
2. Maintain a culture of service excellence, striving, and exceeding our customer perceptions – using data and insights to manage operational delivery.
3. Supporting both the Head of Market and Market Portfolio Lead to develop and implement approaches to ensure we deliver our market strategies and achieve plans
4. Build strong and lasting relationships with stakeholders – notably across our wider Underwriting and Account Management teams.
5. Lead the personal performance and development of a small team of direct reports in pursuit of continuous improvement in key activities and behaviours
6. Inspire, motivate, mentor and develop individuals, including progressing authorities. Achieve outstanding performance through personal leadership style and behaviours.
7. Maintain a detailed understanding of the metrics and the drivers of performance variances against expectations and use data to influence and advise the team strategy
8. Managing and reporting on work states and escalating key issues as required
9. Interpret data to determine responses to market conditions and customer demand
10. Managing individual customer accounts as required.
What are we looking for?
Key skills that the role holder will be able to evidence include;
11. Underwriting experience across one of the main classes of General Insurance.
12. An evidenced passion for leading and developing people – an exceptional coach
13. Ability to influence people at all levels
14. Data led decision making – you will be expert in analysing and evaluating data to make informed decisions
15. Evidence of contributing to implementing a short- and long-term strategy to achieve the operational and financial goals
16. Demonstrable experience working within an organisation with strong corporate values
17. The ability to collaborate and constructively challenge across functions for the success of ZM
