Job Role: Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer Work pattern: Hybrid, 2-3 days working in our Warwick officeSalary: £65,000 - £75,000 per annumNicholas Associates has an exciting opportunity to work for an innovative & award winning client, within the tech industry.Overview:We are looking for a talented and experienced Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer to work on the hardware and embedded software for their exciting range of measurement products.You will be a part of our strong research and development team which includes electronics hardware, embedded software, cloud & backend software and mobile app development. The work you do will be crucial to the success of our current and future products in the market place.You will have the opportunity to lead the hardware/firmware team and manage their work packages. Although this is a technical role at the outset it could develop into a line management role for the right applicant.Key Responsibilities:Architect and design robust products from concepts and specifications in alignment with the requirements, bringing innovative solutions to complex problemsTechnically lead and mentor a small team, bringing your extensive experience to bear with hands on development and support for your teamOversee PCB design and layout, ensuring best practice and high quality resultsDefine and specify test plans for hardware verification and production testingIdentify and implement improvements to test and diagnostic processesSupport environmental and EMC testing during qualificationPerform and oversee circuit analysis including power, tolerance, and reliabilityCapture design requirements in collaboration with other teams.Essential Skills & Experience:A proven record of delivering digital electronics designs from architecture to production, preferably with a focus on battery powered, MCU-based applicationsBe technically fluent in hardware, firmware and manufacturing engineeringOversight of PCB Design & layoutA good understanding of embedded C for microcontrollersFamiliarity with standard interface busses such as SPI, I2C, UART & USBProduct development with regards to DFx (design for safety, testability, and manufacturability)Knowledge of test & verification techniques in support of product lifecycle developmentExperience managing a small team and/or packages of work is highly desirableA Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experienceStrong communication skills, both written & verbal.Desirable Skills & Experience:Full product life cycle development & managementExperience with environmental and EMC testing during qualificationProduction test development & operationExperience with battery powered Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devicesSome experience of analogue electronics design would be advantageousExperience in a smaller company or start-up environment where the portfolio of responsibilities tends to be broaderTechnically fluent in firmware, mechanical and manufacturing engineeringExperience of the certification process (CE and FCC).**Please note - our client is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
