Job description We are looking for a Category Controller to lead the Trading team and is responsible for the customer offer spanning all of our catering customer types to achieve sales, margin, cash profit, stock holding and availability targets for the customer base. About the role: Establish Bestway as a Centre of Excellence for Catering, measured by continued growth in sales and margin and the delivery of measurable benefits to customers and budgeted Bestway KPI targets. Working with the Group Trading Director and other colleagues, develop and implement the commercial strategy for Catering through effective product portfolio management and price architecture, to meet sales and margins targets. About the role: The Category Controller is responsible for planning, executing and evaluating Symbol & Retail Club initiatives/projects. Initially the Category Controller will focus on rolling out of the Managing Range, delivering convenience market leading promotions, Managing end to end margin, Allocations and Pre-sells in accordance to predetermine timelines and targets. Thereafter the Category Controller will be responsible for all other Trading related developments for the BWS Symbol offer. Your main responsibilities: Managing Range, delivering convenience market leading promotions, Managing end to end margin, Allocations and Pre-sells in accordance to predetermine timelines and targets. Define and manage the Bargain Booze and Best One range. Target Key Suppliers in ranking order – fully assist Category Managers in maximising additional income to support Core Extra rewards scheme. Measure and record the additional supplier investment associated with the initiatives. Coordinate with Marketing to define project specs and requirements, ensure all relevant parties meet the required deadlines Develop and implement the Allocation and Pre-Sell process Become main point of contact internally in Trading and externally with suppliers for commercial project/s of Symbol retail, providing a constant communication link between all key stakeholders within Trading Dept., Suppliers and Symbol retail Improve the effectiveness of promotions with regular benchmarking vs. the competitor set and promotional effectiveness reviews Coordinate with the Promotions Manager on the selection and promotion process for Symbol and Retail Club Actively review RSP’s and match against the relevant market, ensure competitive and fed to our EPOS stores Externally: Engage with key suppliers Customers PR / press on a approved basis About You: Significant experience in FMCG Wholesale or Retail sector (Category Management) Strategic thinker– ability to create a long-term vision for the business to influence change Ability to develop and implement strategies to grow the business – developing strong cross-functional relationships Commercial edge, with business acumen and ability to quickly grasp the key business drives Clear and effective communicator – externally and internally, written and verbal Excellent negotiation and influencing skills Champion of change – influencing and persuading key stakeholders to promote and instigate new working practices to drive the business forward Ability to identify areas of change, recommend future actions and mange implementation A positive, can-do approach – wanting to test things and seek continual improvement Professionalism, integrity and Confidentiality The authority and flexibility in co-ordinating and influencing activities across a complex organisation with divers agendas Proactive and always strives to take this area to the next level for competitive advantage and future contribution to the overall business We understand that no applicant ever ticks every box so please do consider applying should some or most of the above apply.
