To deliver as part of a team, the provision of a comprehensive, safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical service to the Trust and its patients.
Responsible for the management and development of the Critical Care Pharmacy Service to achieve a high standard of efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsible for the provision of highly specialist pharmaceutical service to the Critical Care areas, including management of digital medicines systems in critical care.
Advise on strategies to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
Provide pharmaceutical expertise to multidisciplinary working groups considering protocols, policies, and guidelines in the specialist area.
Produce protocols, policies, and guidelines related to pharmaceutical practice in the Critical Care Service.
Handle high-level pharmaceutical queries and advise medical and nursing staff, including senior medical staff, in critical care areas.
Provide regular reports for the Directorate on drug expenditure, exception reporting, and other performance indicators related to critical care.
Undertake annual audits and risk management to promote continuous quality improvement.
Attend and contribute to directorate meetings.
Assist in evaluating and appraising evidence for new medicines in critical care, considering clinical and financial implications for the hospital trust.
Develop and enforce guidelines for the use of unlicensed medicines within critical care.
Attend regional critical care meetings to shape regional policies and stay updated on latest developments.
Calculate nutritional, fluid, and electrolyte requirements and prepare safe, stable parenteral nutrition formulations for intravenous administration, complying with aseptic techniques.
Supervise rotational pharmacists during critical care rotations, assessing their clinical abilities.
Contribute to time management, organize ward rounds, observe medical procedures, and provide specialist teaching.
