We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time equine sport medicine and rehabilitation resident to join our purpose-built hospital in the UK. The pathway is a traditional residency with the American College of Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR).
As an Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Resident, you will work under the supervision of experienced veterinarians and specialists to provide comprehensive care to equine athletes. This role involves diagnosing and treating injuries, implementing rehabilitation programs, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to optimise the health and performance of sport horses.
The residency program will begin on 1st July 2024.

Pool House Equine Hospital stands as a premier 24-hour emergency and specialty facility dedicated to delivering outstanding veterinary services to our clientele. Situated in Lichfield, northeast of Birmingham, we proudly serve as an affiliated teaching practice for Nottingham University. Our state-of-the-art hospital boasts a purpose-built infrastructure featuring four operating theatres, including two standing theatres with a dedicated dental facility, and two full theatres, one of which is specifically designated for colic cases. Equipped with four digital radiography systems, ultrasound machines, and a standing MRI, our facilities ensure comprehensive diagnostic capabilities. With stabling available for up to 30 horses, we cater to a diverse equine population, spanning from general riding and companion horses/ponies to elite sport horses and racehorse training establishments. Conveniently located near major transportation hubs, including the motorway network, mainline railway stations, and Birmingham International Airport, access to our clinic is seamless.
Our distinguished team comprises over 15 seasoned veterinary surgeons, including 5 European and American Diplomates, along with proficient ambulatory veterinarians and 5 dedicated residents. Supporting our clinical staff are adept reception and accounts personnel, three Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), skilled technicians, and dedicated yard staff.
Hours aimed to achieve a work-life balance
This opportunity entails a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, with standard working hours typically from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Additionally, you will be expected to participate in an equitable rotation of out-of-hours (OOH) duties, including weekends and bank holidays.
What You’ll Need
The applicants must have completed a rotating internship or equivalent experience, be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) or have a veterinary degree that allows registration with the RCVS without statutory examination and be eligible to live and work in United Kingdom.
