Please note: This specific placement is based on a 36-hour week during school hours, with flexibility needed for school events. The Role As a Dedicated Teacher Support Worker, you will provide high-quality, one-to-one assistance to a Computer Science teacher at The Canterbury Academy who uses a wheelchair. You will promote independence and dignity, empowering the teacher to lead their classroom effectively. This role is focused on mobility and classroom assistance and does not involve personal care. No two days will be the same. The role is multifaceted, requiring support during the school day, as well as at parents' evenings, school meetings, and school events (including school trips). Key Placement Responsibilities: Mobility & Safety Providing mobility assistance around the school, including pushing the teacher to/from the car park and on gradients. Opening manual doors, operating door locks. Lifting the empty wheelchair in/out of the car. Assisting during emergency evacuations/drills and fetching assistance/medication when necessary. Classroom & Instructional Support Being visually alert to monitor the room and avoid blind spots for the teacher. Writing on the white board (under instruction), setting up classroom experiments, and assisting students with physical computer problems (e.g., changing mice/keyboards). General & Administrative Support Moving and organising classroom furniture, opening windows/doors, helping with classroom displays, photocopying, fetching resources/equipment from around the school, and helping keep the classroom environment tidy. Ability to work flexibly and with initiative to support the teacher during the school day and school events.
