The Food Logistics Manager is a pivotal role within North Bristol & South Gloucestershire Foodbank, responsible for leading and managing the food logistics team to ensure the efficient sourcing, stock management, and dignified distribution of food across all outlets. Success in this role means delivering an effective food strategy annually, maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring seamless volunteer session operations. As part of the management team, this position contributes to the organisation's mission to end hunger locally by ensuring smooth, safe warehouse and stock operations.
Responsibilities:
* Plan and action the annual food strategy including food-raising, purchasing, sourcing, and distribution
* Line manage the Food Logistics Coordinator and Assistant, handling team rotas and absence management to maintain full coverage
* Maintain strong communication with staff, volunteers, and partner organisations including supermarkets, schools, and churches
* Manage and set up processes and procedures to ensure safe and efficient warehouse and logistics operations
* Ensure volunteer sessions run smoothly, including warehouse opening, preparation, and closing, while maintaining cleanliness and security
* Coordinate corporate volunteering and supermarket collections as required
* Oversee stock ordering, receipt, and accurate audit, including during peak and irregular stock situations
* Manage the food logistics budget and participate in budget planning
* Collaborate with the volunteering team to oversee recruitment, induction, training, and volunteer support
* Support health and safety compliance across warehouse sites
Qualifications:
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively
* Attention to detail and accuracy in data handling and record keeping
* Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive information
* Proactive problem-solving skills
* Willingness to work hands-on and flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends, and early or late shifts with time off in lieu
* Supportive of the Christian ethos and values of the Foodbank
* Ability to safely lift crates weighing up to 20kg and drive food bank vans (where possible)
