The role
We seek an experienced senior manager to lead our new Project Management and Design function within Ramboll Transport, located in the Major Projects Spearhead team. The candidate will serve as Head of Department, bringing international experience to manage, lead, and expand this team to handle Ramboll Transport's largest projects. The role involves creating, leading, and developing a Project and Design Management function that supports large infrastructure projects, combining traditional PMO capabilities with design management.
This position supports Project and Technical Directors and implements Ramboll's protocols, procedures, and best practices for large infrastructure projects for both Client side (Owners Engineers) and Design and Build (Contractor) projects.
Your team will be part of the Major Projects Spearhead with teams in Finland, Denmark, and the UK working on complex projects. You will collaborate with the broader transport unit of over 4000 team members to support project delivery. Your experience, passion, perspective, energy, enthusiasm, and connections will be vital to our evolution journey.
The role offers a broad mandate to support engineering, design, and major transport initiatives.
The position is based in Copenhagen, Hamburg, Berlin, London, or Dublin (discussable). International travel will be expected as appropriate for a senior role.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Managing the Major Project Spearhead portfolio
* Collaborating with top management and stakeholders to develop the new function
* Leading team growth, development, and strategy
* Overseeing large transport projects and mentoring teams
* Growing project pipeline and orderbook
* Managing key projects financially and operationally
* Inspiring and engaging employees, partners, and clients through inclusive leadership
* Supporting resource allocation and collaboration across the company
* Participating in innovation, automation, and digitalization initiatives
Ideal candidate profile:
* Extensive international experience in senior roles related to engineering, design, owner, and contractor work on major infrastructure projects
* Experience with PMO or PMD functions, especially in establishing remote and international teams
* Civil infrastructure experience preferred
* Excellent English communication skills; Scandinavian or German language skills are a plus
* M.Sc. in Engineering or related field is advantageous
* Memberships in professional bodies like PMI or ICE are desirable
* Proven project management and personnel management experience in consulting, utility, or authority sectors
