Department: Inpatient Therapies

Band 7 £46, - £52, per annum pro rata

Fixed-term until 17.07.

Part-time 30 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

The Therapy team at MKUH are looking for a forward thinking, passionate Lead Physiotherapist to join the Acute Assessment and Frailty Team (AAFT) on a fixed-term contract until July.

AAFT is an interdisciplinary service comprising Nurses, Physios, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants working within emergency care, community interface, acute medicine & care of the elderly services at MKUH.

This role would be suitable for clinicians who can demonstrate significant experience of working with older adults with Frailty. It is essential to have excellent resilience when working within busy, fast faced departments of urgent care services, have a positive attitude to taking risks to support people to return home wherever possible, and be highly skilled at influencing decision making at senior levels.

Within this exciting role, there will be an amazing opportunity to teach on (or attend) dependent on previous level of knowledge on our Frailty Masters module, developed in conjunction with the University of Northampton.

Main duties of the job

1. To be responsible for managing a highly specialist clinical caseload of AAFT patients for the Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH), patients will be assessed and treated in a variety of different settings including outpatients or inpatients and/ or community as required by the area of clinical specialty.
2. To work in collaboration with Advanced Therapists and the Therapy Leads to jointly provide clinical and managerial leadership to the AAFT team, employed by MKUH, in the delivery of a high-quality service for its patients.
3. The post holder will have knowledge of emerging clinical developments, provide advice to inform service development in the speciality in support of the appropriate Therapy Lead
4. To demonstrate and role model specialist clinical assessment and treatment skills for an agreed caseload of patients.
5. To continually review staffing levels/skill mix in accordance with the changing needs of the service and informing the Therapy Lead of any problems that may arise.
6. To act as a source of expertise in specialist area for patients, carers, medical staff and other health professionals, GPs and colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Leadership & management:

15. To provide clinical and managerial leadership to the clinical team in area of clinical speciality by working collaboratively with other Advanced Therapists and the Therapy Lead.

Clinical practice:

16. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, ensuring a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management by supporting more junior staff to do likewise.

Professional duties:

17. To maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities, demonstrating awareness of new trends and developments and their incorporation into practice as necessary.

Governance:

18. To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and their application to work situation.
