Overview
This post represents a career opportunity for a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to work with the Oncology Consultants and the wider cancer multidisciplinary team. The appointee would work across two tumour sites (upper GI and colorectal cancer) in partnership with the current UHMB oncology team and visiting Clinical Oncologists from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The role includes participation in research, with opportunities to act as Principal Investigator for trials in areas of interest, and contribution to the acute oncology inpatient service alongside the established ANP team. There is currently no on-call commitment associated with the post.
Role and Responsibilities
* Work across the two tumour sites for upper GI and colorectal cancer, in collaboration with UHMB oncology colleagues and visiting Clinical Oncologists.
* Engage with an active research department and have the opportunity to be involved in research and act as PI for trials in your areas of interest.
* Contribute to the acute oncology inpatient service at UHMB and work with the established acute oncology ANP team.
* Share acute oncology duties with the rest of the consultant team.
* This is a pan-UHMB appointment with the expectation to work across at least two of the three UHMB sites (Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital).
* There is currently no on-call commitment associated with the post.
Site and Appointment Details
The Trust is a recognised Cancer Unit, providing systemic therapy for all common tumour sites. SACT is given at all three sites. The acute oncology and inpatient services are at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.
We have a vacancy for a full-time substantive (10 PA) Medical Oncology Consultant to join the motivated, friendly and experienced Oncology team at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. The successful applicant will preferably demonstrate an interest in Upper GI and Colorectal Cancer and will be expected to share acute oncology duties with the rest of the consultant team.
Applicants who are seeking to work part-time or flexibly will also be considered. Interested applicants with slightly different site specialty interests should enquire with the clinical team.
Locations
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as community premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI offer General Hospital services with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides General Hospital services plus an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life threatening conditions. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day-case and inpatient surgery, with additional local outreach services from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
