A Little More About Your Role
As an Offshore Cable Project / Mechanical Engineer, you will be expected to provide day-to-day expertise to the Offshore Cables Engineering team on offshore cable design including hardware design activities, making key technical decisions to support the project based on your experience. The role is client facing therefore, a strong ability to communicate effectively and accordingly is required. The role will support the Project Managers and Lead Offshore Engineer with project deliverables specific to the HVAC / HVDC Offshore Cable elements.
Your Responsibilities
* Conduct detailed design engineering for new projects, collaborating with other departments to ensure understanding of all customer/project requirements and to support the Proposals, Purchasing, Project Management, Quality and Production teams.
* Work across a broad spectrum within the Offshore Transmission Team. The role will vary but be focused on cable engineering, hardware specifications for inter-array / export cables and project engineering support.
* Support the PM with progress updating of Engineering Deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, providing updates to monthly reporting both internally and externally.
* Support junior members of the team, with training, guidance and knowledge transfer.
* Review client specifications, vendor documentation.
* May require travel to client’s offices or site alongside potential vendor engagement.
General Deliverables
* Electrical & mechanical designs, calculations, specification and report writing for HVAC and HVDC cables in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
* Pull-In Calculations.
* Windfarm layout designs / drawings.
* General arrangement drawings.
* Scope of Supply drawings.
* Decommissioning Procedures.
* Cable Accessories and Specification generation and where required review of vendor supplied documentation.
* Cable Protection System specification generation in support of procurement activities / vendor or client requirements.
* Installation, Operation and Maintenance procedure or guideline generation.
* Employer requirements, creation of technical documentation to support WSP’s clients with their procurement process.
* Cable Route Engineering, including layout design, burial assessments and risk assessments.
* Proposal scopes of work, coordination and delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
* Understanding of HVAC Inter Array Cable and Export cable design; design of 66kV – 132kV HVAC cables, cable design basis, current rating calculations.
* Experience with HVDC Interconnectors up to 525kV; cable design basis, current rating calculations.
* Knowledge of cable selection: electrical cores, sheath, armour, outer layers.
* Perform calculations for electrical and mechanical covering cable ratings studies, pull-in tensions & installation.
* Experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD; other cable analysis software desirable.
* Ability to coordinate and interface cross departments and external vendors/clients.
* Strong communication and concise reporting skills.
