Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Visitor within our Children’s health service based in South Ayrshire.

Hours:

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

37 hours per week,

Monday to Friday (9-5)

A UK driving licence is essential to this role.

What you will do:

1. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Health Visitor to become part of SAHSCP Children & Families Health Visiting Team. We have the opportunity to recruit a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse/Health Visitor to our children and families teams with a designated caseload within the surrounding areas.
2. Health Visiting is a diverse, satisfying and challenging role that involves working with children and their families to provide help, support and direction. As a caseload manager you will be expected to provide a high quality, culturally sensitive, safe person centred and effective health visiting service in the community, whilst working in collaboration with partner agencies.
3. You will function as an independent, autonomous practitioner & should have in-depth knowledge, expertise, proficiency and experience in health visiting and the GIRFEC/National practice model Framework. You will be responsible and accountable for the ongoing management of your caseload to ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the universal health visiting pathway and additional programmes of care.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

4. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and that you have a post registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing with evidence of continuing professional development.
5. You will be expected to undertake continuous professional development, caseload management & child protection supervision with a team leader. You should have relevant post registration experience as a PHN/Health Visitor.
6. It is essential that you are a car driver and have a current driving licence.
7. Skills required include the provision of highly specialised advice, parenting skills, health promotion, health education, psycho-social interventions.
8. At times high-level health visiting interventions are required when dealing with issues such as child protection, domestic abuse, addictions, peri-natal illness, and children affected by disability and/or life limiting illnesses.
9. You should have a flexible strengths based approach, be innovative and quality orientated with an ability to respond positively to change.
