On behalf of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, we are recruiting a Handyperson to support the smooth and safe running of a council‑managed service for vulnerable individuals. Your new role
As a Handyperson based at Willow Gardens in Rowley Regis, you will play a key role in maintaining the day-to-day operation, safety and presentation of the building and its grounds. Working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, you will carry out a wide range of general handyperson and caretaker duties, including minor repairs, internal decorating touch‑ups, cleaning in response to spills or accidents, porterage and assisting with deliveries. You will support the management team bypleting weekly and monthly fire alarm tests,munity alarm tests, water flushing and health and safety inspections, accurately documenting oues and reporting any faults or concerns. The role also involves supporting bin management, tending to gardens and external areas throughout all seasons, litter picking, jet washing and ensuring the site remains safe, tidy and weing. You may also be required to undertake driving duties and provide handyperson support to other council sites across the borough when needed, while working both independently and as part of a wider team.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will have practical experience carrying out general maintenance, minor repairs and basic decorating, along with a strong awareness of health and safety requirements in a residential or supported environment. You will be reliable, organised and able to manage your workload effectively, whether working unsupervised or alongside colleagues. Goodmunication skills are essential, as you will work closely with the management team and other staff to report issues and ensurepliance. You must befortable working in a setting that supports vulnerable adults and be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check with the Adults’ Barred List. A positive, flexible attitude and amitment to Sandwell Council’s values and behaviours are essential.
