Salary: £43,260 to £51,500 DOE

Role Overview
Reporting to the Department Engineer, you will lead the mechanical engineering function for your area. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll provide engineering expertise to support operations, improve plant performance, and ensure compliance with statutory, safety, and quality standards. This hands-on role offers a blend of leadership, technical problem-solving, and project management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and develop a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring their growth through training and mentorship.
2. Manage planned maintenance and inspection schedules to ensure compliance and efficiency.
3. Provide engineering input to optimize plant operations and performance.
4. Ensure adherence to safety standards, conducting regular audits and managing risks effectively.
5. Monitor and control engineering budgets, materials, and resource allocation.
6. Drive continuous improvement by implementing failure reduction strategies and process upgrades.
7. Lead major maintenance periods, including planning, justification, and execution within agreed budgets.
8. Manage contractors, ensuring competence, adherence to safety procedures, and timely project delivery.
9. Investigate and resolve issues through root cause analysis, implementing long-term solutions.
10. Maintain detailed records in the CMMS system (INFOR), ensuring compliance and supporting continuous improvement.
About You
We’re looking for a proactive and experienced engineering professional with strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a collaborative mindset. You should be driven to exceed expectations, solve complex challenges, and lead your team to achieve operational success.
Essential Criteria
1. Engineering qualification (HNC or higher) and 5+ years in a supervisory or technical role.
2. Experience with plant engineering and systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, and VAC systems.
3. CMMS experience (preferably INFOR).
4. Strong understanding of risk management, Health & Safety legislation, and their application in a manufacturing environment.
5. Analytical problem-solving skills and experience with failure reduction and reliability-based maintenance.
6. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Criteria
1. Experience with VIM, VAR, ESR furnaces, heat treatment furnaces, and associated auxiliary equipment.
2. Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and project management.
3. A background in mentoring and team development to foster a high-performing workforce.
