The business is the largest independent wholesaler in the UK with an international network supplying medicines to meet patient needs and providing a route to market for manufacturers. Trading in this industry since 1825, the business has a long-established reputation within the pharmaceutical sector.
Hospital distribution is the DNA of the business. Supplying to hospitals is a service orientated growth market and forms a key part of the strategic plan. Developing relationships with manufacturers is the backbone to this plan.
The position will be split between field based and Salford (Head Office) based but this can be flexible for the right candidate
The Requirement
Reporting to the Hospital Business Director, the primary objective will be to develop long term, mutually beneficial relationships with strategic manufacturers to help grow the Hospital business whilst driving profit margin.
* Develop existing manufacturer business with the overall objective of managing margin to ensure a sustainable future business for Mawdsleys and ensuring a broad portfolio of products is available to our hospital customers.
* Networking and relationship building is at the heart of what we do at Mawdsleys so strong people skills and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders internally and across industry is critical to the success of this role.
* Working closely with other members of the Hospital team, develop a strategic plan to add targeted manufacturers to the Mawdsleys portfolio.
* KPI evaluation and reporting will be integral to managing supplier performance.
* Commercial management experience essential; long-term business plans, margin optimisation, contract negotiation.
* Segmented portfolio management, split between strategic, core, transactional.
* Experience of data systems will support business development.
* Legal contract/distribution agreement experience desirable.
* Provide business intelligence on the pharma market to identify additional opportunities.
* Convert opportunities into contractual business and develop strong working relationships to maximise return for both Mawdsleys and the supplier on an ongoing basis.
* Identify short term opportunities to support customers and enhance Mawdsleys reputation in the market.
* Co-ordinate between different parts of the business to ensure cross functional collaboration.
* Liaise with procurement, commercial, operations and quality teams to ensure efficient procurement, stock control and management of key lines.
* Work closely with suppliers to facilitate mutually beneficial opportunities for product promotion.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will possess:
* Senior level experience of the pharmaceutical industry, ideally with procurement experience.
* Experience of the hospitals sector in the UK.
* Strong negotiation skills.
* Strong data literacy and analytical capability with the ability to interpret sales and market data to generate clear, actionable commercial insights.
* High levels of literacy skills with the ability to analyse complex legal documents.
* High levels of numerical skills with the ability to confidently work with figures, analyse trends and support commercial decisions with accurate data.
* Comfortable working with multiple internal systems (ERP, tender portals, contract management tools) to support commercial activities.
* Experience and knowledge of NHS pharmacy procurement practices and processes, including contracting and tendering.
* Excellent communication and networking skills combined with the intellectual capacity to sell the Mawdsleys service in a trustworthy, personable and professional manner.
* Resilience, demonstrating confidence in their own ability along with a positive approach.
* Evaluating and solving problems, able to provide strong logic and objectively interpret data to establish the key facts.
Equally important will be the candidate's generic ability and attitude. They must be a self-starter, able to work independently and also a collaborative team player, networking internally and contributing towards common, joined up objectives. The candidate must also be willing to travel where necessary as face-to-face meetings and attendance at relevant conferences and symposia are an integral part of this role
Remuneration
A package will be offered which reflects the level of the role, and the required NHS and pharmaceutical industry experience. The individual should be driven and have the potential to operate at a level above their current experience and training will be offered where appropriate.
