About the role

* The post holder will the key person responsible for co-ordinating the councils Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) programme, which represents £8m of improvements to public transport services and infrastructure.
* This funding will provide a series of capital and revenue investments that complements our existing bus service budget of over £5m. It will include new and improved bus services, highway works to reduce bus service journey times, and many other schemes to promote use of the bus.
* Develop and lead the BSIP programme, as the lead officer you will be the key contact for all things BSIP-related.
* Manage the day-to-day operations required to deliver the programme with internal and external stakeholders.
* Work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of the programme.

To be successful in this role you will need:

* Experience in delivering a complex programme of works.
* Detailed knowledge of the public transport sector and the role of a council.
* The ability to confidently engaging with customers, suppliers and stakeholders (e.g. Councillors and central government departments).
* Experience in designing and implementing new processes and guidance.
* The confidence to defuse challenging situations while upholding policies.
* A detailed knowledge of public sector procurement law and guidance.
* Excellent creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills.
* The ability to work to tight pressurised deadlines in areas where frequent change is the “norm”. These deadlines may change so the ability to re-prioritise will be essential.
* Experience working in the political context of local authorities, identifying issues that may gain political traction, raising them with the appropriate officer and managing any fallout.
