Job Description

3. Provide strategic leadership for social media activity, embedding and championing best practice across all channels
4. Ensure social media supports organisational priorities and delivery of the Communications Strategy
5. Lead planning and coordination of social content across short, medium and long-term timelines
6. Manage a dynamic workload, balancing planned campaigns with urgent requests
7. Align content to organisational priorities to maintain a consistent, proactive, and impactful pipeline
8. Maintain high standards of quality, consistency, and accessibility across all social media content
9. Oversee adherence to brand, tone of voice, and accessibility guidelines
10. Ensure communications are clear, inclusive, credible, and trusted
11. Use audience insight to shape content and channel choices, focusing on diverse and hard-to-reach audiences
12. Apply sound judgement to maximise engagement, relevance, and impact
13. Provide expert social media advice to senior leadership
14. Oversee the creation and publication of high-quality visual and multimedia content
15. Model best practice and strengthen organisational capability
16. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners (e.g. designers, videographers, agencies) to deliver integrated, high-quality content
17. Ensure social media output is fully aligned with wider communications activity
18. Oversee approvals processes and risk management for social media channels
19. Ensure accuracy, compliance, and proactive management of reputational, legal, and political risks
20. Participate in an out-of-hours social media rota
21. Drive continuous improvement through trend monitoring, performance analysis, and innovation
22. Use data and insight to optimise channels, campaigns, and value for money
23. Provide leadership in a matrix environment by managing projects, coordinating resources, and supporting colleagues
24. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
25. Manage allocated budgets effectively, ensuring efficient use of resources aligned to strategic priorities
26. Support inclusive growth, environmental sustainability, and organisational value-for-money commitments
27. Undertake additional duties as required, including potential future line management responsibilities

The Successful Applicant

A successful Interim Social Media Manager should have:

28. Strong social media expertise, including creating high-quality visual and multimedia content
29. Excellent visual judgement with ability to simplify complex information for non-specialist audiences
30. In-depth knowledge of digital communications best practice (audience insight, content planning, channel management, performance measurement)
31. Skilled in using data and insights to improve impact and value for money
32. Experience in political or public-facing environments with understanding of governance and reputation management
33. Demonstrates sound judgement, accuracy, and sensitivity in high-profile contexts
34. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal teams, senior stakeholders, and external partners
35. Strong influencing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to secure buy-in in complex environments
36. Experience in leadership and collaborative working, including project management and supporting team performance
37. Line management and performance management experience desirable
38. Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills
39. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure
40. Experience overseeing budgets
