About this opportunity
Are you ready to join our Transport Platform team and help shape and deliver the next phase of our transformation?

The role sits within the Transport Platform; part of the wider Consumer Lending Business Unit-where our mission is to keep Britain moving. We do this by providing customer‑focused solutions enabling access to vehicles, maintenance, related services, and digital account management. We're also committed to advancing sustainable mobility across the UK.

To support this mission, we're investing heavily in redefining our core technology architecture-modernising digital journeys, building microservices, using a new data ecosystem, and adopting native Cloud capabilities. We're embedding DevOps and Agile working practices across the platform to improve autonomy, speed, and engineering effectiveness.

This role will be based initially in Newport (Tredegar Park), with the team transitioning to our Cardiff office in Q4 2026 as we continue to build a modern, collaborative technology hub for the platform.

As a Senior Technical Application Specialist, you'll become the SME for our core third‑party SaaS account management system. Acting as the technical bridge between platform engineering and business teams, you'll deliver complex configuration changes, enabling our product roadmap and supporting high‑quality service outcomes. You'll work within a Lab component team and collaborate closely with Feature Teams to drive both business value and technical excellence.

Why Lloyds Banking Group?
At Lloyds Banking Group, our purpose is clear: to help Britain prosper. Our colleagues are passionate about making a real difference to customers, businesses, and communities.

Like the modern Britain we serve, we're evolving, investing billions in our people, technology, and data to transform the way we support over 26 million customers.

We're growing with purpose. And when you join us, you'll grow too, personally and professionally, as we shape the future of financial services together.

Day to day: Where you'll make a difference
Collaborate with Product Owners, Customer Journey Managers and Engineering teams to understand feature requirements, system behaviours and customer needs.
Contribute to the design, configuration, integration and support of application components, ensuring smooth product delivery without unnecessary complexity.
Configure supported technologies, apply established patterns and ensure changes are well tested to reduce technical debt and operational risk.
Participate in Agile ceremonies - helping the team plan work, manage dependencies, raise impediments and balance delivery with operational needs.
Contribute to pragmatic, well understood application configuration changes aligned to the target architecture - making trade offs when appropriate.
Support team effectiveness through design discussions, code/configuration reviews, and identifying opportunities to automate or streamline processes.
Enhance shared domain knowledge by contributing to documentation, lifecycle management and the rollout of technical roadmaps.
Promote strong technical custodianship by participating in incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring learnings lead to greater reliability.
Provide occasional on call or out of hours support during key implementation windows or to assist with critical service issues, ensuring continuity and stability for our customers and colleagues.
Help uplift security, compliance and resilience by identifying risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Mentor colleagues, contribute to interviews and support onboarding of new team members.
Invest in developing your own technical, operational and agile skills.

What you'll need
Foundational experience with engineering or application management tools, with the ability to configure, troubleshoot and support application components.

Experience contributing to the stability and reliability of production systems-including incident support, performance monitoring and recovery.
Strong analytical skills to investigate issues, interpret data, perform root‑cause analysis and contribute to service improvements.
Experience working with cross‑functional teams (Product, Engineering, Quality, Support) to deliver change and resolve issues.
Exposure to automation or scripting tools to reduce manual effort and improve repeatability.
Understanding of software delivery, including versioning, testing approaches and safe deployment practices.
Experience in environments balancing new change with system stability, and in prioritising resilience, maintenance and compliance where needed.
A demonstrable appetite for continuous learning and growing technical depth in key application areas.

Nice to have
In addition to the above, experience with the following would be beneficial:
Experience working with SAAS providers or financial services applications built on SAAS platforms.
Knowledge of Cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS).
Understanding of IT infrastructure (servers, networks, databases).
ITIL Foundation certification.
Experience with monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Dynatrace).
Familiarity with SRE principles and tooling.
