Electrician

FLSA Status: Hourly / Non‑Exempt
Department: Maintenance

Position Summary

The Electrician is responsible for performing skilled electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation work on industrial equipment and facility systems. This role supports production operations by ensuring electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes. The Electrician works independently, diagnoses complex electrical issues, and assists with control system troubleshooting, including PLC‑related tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Electrical Maintenance & Repair

1. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain low‑ and high‑voltage electrical systems used in production and facility operations.
2. Diagnose electrical failures involving motors, drives, relays, sensors, switches, and control devices.
3. Install, size, bend, thread, and route electrical conduit according to NEC standards.
4. Pull, terminate, and label electrical wiring for new installations and repairs.
5. Replace or repair electrical components such as contactors, fuses, breakers, switches, and wiring.
6. Perform electrical testing using multimeters, amp clamps, meggers, and other diagnostic tools.
7. Conduct system startups, operational checks, and power testing after repairs or installations.

Control Systems & PLC Support

8. Assist with troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including identifying I/O failures and verifying field device functionality.
9. Support downloading, uploading, and restoring PLC programs under supervision of qualified personnel.
10. Read and interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, and wiring prints to diagnose issues and perform repairs.
11. Maintain and modify electrical panels, junction boxes, and control cabinets.

Preventive Maintenance & Reliability

12. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical systems, motors, panels, and control devices.
13. Inspect electrical equipment for wear, overheating, loose connections, or safety hazards.
14. Document all maintenance activities, findings, and parts usage in the CMMS system.
15. Recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime.

Safety & Compliance

16. Follow all electrical safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and arc‑flash requirements.
17. Ensure all work complies with NEC, facility policies, and safety standards.
18. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
19. Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or near‑miss incidents promptly.

Collaboration & Communication

20. Work closely with maintenance technicians, operators, and supervisors to resolve equipment issues.
21. Communicate repair status, findings, and recommendations clearly and professionally.
22. Support equipment installations, upgrades, and engineering projects as needed.

Qualifications

23. High school diploma or GED required.
24. Associate degree or technical training in electrical systems preferred.
25. Strong understanding of AC/DC systems, control circuits, relays, sensors, and industrial electrical components.
26. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
27. Proficient in troubleshooting electrical systems using diagnostic tools.
28. Experience working independently in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
29. Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
30. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Certifications & Licenses

31. Journeyman Electrician Certification or equivalent experience preferred.
32. Lockout/Tagout training (required after hire).
33. Additional electrical safety certifications a plus.

34. Multimeters, amp clamps, meggers, and continuity testers
35. Conduit benders, threaders, and cutting tools

Work Environment

Work is performed in an industrial production environment with exposure to electrical hazards, moving machinery, hot or cold temperatures, and humid conditions. Proper PPE is required at all times.

Physical Requirements

45. Lift up to 50 lbs
46. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
47. Work in tight spaces, elevated areas, or around energized equipment (following safety protocols)
48. Perform repetitive motions and use hand tools regularly

Schedule & Overtime

Day shift availability as listed; overtime, weekends, and extended hours may be required based on production needs.
