Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Nursing Support Worker, Band 3 on St Non Ward, an Older Adult Mental Health Ward in Haverfordwest. The successful applicant will have experience of working in an acute assessment in‑patient setting and will demonstrate dynamic and innovative practice for the care of older adults with complex mental health needs. The Nursing Support Worker is a vital part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the patients’ assessment and treatment pathway in several vital ways. The role will be performed under the guidance of registered nurses and involves direct nursing care, observation, monitoring physical health and supporting the assessment process to enable holistic care.
The role requires flexibility to meet service needs and working within a shift system providing 24‑hour, 365‑day coverage, including nights.
Main Duties of the Job
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients/service users experiencing mental health needs in the community/home setting or inpatient services, with support and supervision provided by a registered healthcare professional.
* Undertake or support personal care activities, daily living skills/tasks and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
* Support the enhanced observation of patients who present as a high risk to themselves or others due to a mental health, cognitive or clinical condition.
* Ensure the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patients/client’s condition and progress.
* Ensure the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes.
* Contribute to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff.
* Deliver the role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and Code of Conduct for HCSW’s in Wales, including maintaining physical, procedural and relational security.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience working in an acute assessment in‑patient setting in older adults with complex mental health needs.
Ability to engage in a variety of interventions with patients, including direct nursing care and observation.
Ability to work flexibly within a 24‑hour shift system.
Knowledge of HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
Good communication skills.
Welsh speaking ability desirable but not required.
