💧 Mechanical Design Engineer – Water Industry (Permanent or Outside IR35)
My client is a well-established engineering design consultancy supporting major programmes within the UK regulated water sector. Due to continued growth and a strong AMP workload, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the delivery of high-quality mechanical design packages across clean and wastewater projects.
This opportunity is open to both permanent candidates and Outside IR35 contractors.
The Role / Assignment
* Produce mechanical design calculations and drawings for water industry schemes
* Deliver design outputs that meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
* Coordinate and support CAD technicians
* Prepare scopes and review outputs from subcontract M&E design teams
* Liaise with equipment suppliers and manufacturers, including technical review of tenders
* Prepare design investigations, reports, and technical specifications
* Ensure compliance with relevant technical, professional, and water company standards
* Implement and record design changes in line with project controls
* Estimate design hours and support project planning
* Attend and present at design and project meetings
About You
* 5+ years’ mechanical design experience in the UK water industry
* Experience across wastewater and clean water, infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects
* Strong hydraulic design capability
* Understanding of construction methods, materials, and buildability
* Knowledge of engineering drawing standards
* Degree, HND, or equivalent experience from technician level
* Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership
* Confident IT user with relevant design software experience
