Chief portfolio officer

Glasgow (Glasgow City)
The Scottish National Investment Bank plc
€125,000 a year
Posted: 22 April
Offer description

The Scottish National Investment Bank is Scotland’s development bank and a mission-led impact investor, wholly owned by Scottish Ministers on behalf of the people of Scotland. Established in 2020, the Bank invests patient, long-term capital in businesses and projects across Scotland to deliver both commercial returns and lasting economic and social impact.

With a growing and diverse portfolio of over 50 businesses and projects, and more than £1 billion already committed alongside £1.7 billion of co-investment, the Bank is now seeking an exceptional Chief Portfolio Officer (CPO) to join its Executive Management Team.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CPO will be responsible for shaping and leading the Bank’s post-investment strategy, overseeing a complex portfolio spanning equity, debt and fund investments. This is a pivotal leadership role, combining strategic oversight with hands-on portfolio value creation, governance and active ownership.

The successful candidate will:

* Lead the Portfolio function and drive performance, value creation and mission impact across all investee companies.
* Work closely with portfolio company Chairs, CEOs and Boards to support growth, turnaround and long-term success.
* Act as a trusted adviser to the CEO and Board on portfolio optimisation, enterprise risk and strategic priorities.
* Play a full role as a member of the Executive Management Team, contributing to the leadership and delivery of the Bank’s overall strategy.

This role will suit a senior leader with strong investment and portfolio experience, combined with the judgement, maturity and collaborative mindset required to operate at Executive and Board level. While experience in regulated or highly governed environments is valued, the defining requirement is the ability to lead portfolio value creation in complex, multi-stakeholder settings, aligned to a strong sense of public purpose.

The role may be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow. A meaningful presence in Scotland is expected.

This is a rare opportunity to play a leading role in shaping Scotland’s economic future, working at the intersection of investment discipline, public purpose and national impact.

SNIB has retained Russell Reynolds Associates to advise on this appointment. For further information about the position and how to apply, please review the position specification below.

The closing date for applications is 23:59 GMT on Sunday 8th March 2026.
