The job itself
Beverley Town Council is looking for an Assistant Town Clerk to join our small, dedicated team supporting 14 elected members. This includes managing the Civic Diary in coordination with the Mayor and liaising with external organisations on invitations and correspondence. You will assist with Council and committee meetings, preparing agendas, supporting documents, and taking accurate minutes, as well as helping to follow up resolutions and assist with the successful delivery of project and events.
A key part of your role will be overseeing the Council’s allotments, acting as the main contact for tenants, responding to queries, carrying out weekly site inspections, and helping resolve issues or disputes. You will also contribute to the town’s wider community services, supporting initiatives such as floral displays, street lighting, Christmas lights and other civic or community projects. You will act as cover for the Town Clerk and the Responsible Financial Officer during periods of annual leave or illness.
This role requires organisation, adaptability and a hands-on approach. The successful candidate will be required to undertake professional development opportunities, including accredited courses, one-off training events, are actively encouraged and in-house training to support them in fulfilling their duties effectively.
If you are community-minded, flexible and ready to make a difference, this is your chance to join a friendly, committed team and support the civic and community life of Beverley.
