Ambulance Care Assistant – Mental Health

Join the Ambulance Care Assistant – Mental Health role at EMED Group.

We are looking for enthusiastic, care‑focused individuals to join our Safe Care Division (Secure Mental Health). Preferably, you will have experience in a care, security, prison or public service background.

Your main responsibility is to support police and other professionals transporting service users to and from healthcare facilities. You will work alone or in a 2‑ or 3‑person team, so a full UK driving licence is essential. Full training will be provided for this rewarding role.

This is a full‑time role, working either 8‑hour shifts Monday to Friday or 10‑hour shifts on a 4‑on‑4‑off basis (including weekends) on a rota basis, with shifts covering 24 hours per day. (Please only apply if you can commit to these hours).

Main Duties

* Work as part of a team to support the service user on board.
* Ensure the vehicle is safely and responsibly driven.
* Assist service users with challenging behaviour or mental health illnesses.
* Support challenging service users who may need physical intervention.
* Transport vulnerable service users between hospitals, homes, prisons and other care settings.
* Liaise with hospital staff and police for safe conveyance.
* Lift, secure, and help service users in and out of the ambulance.
* Hand over service users to appropriate staff on arrival.
* Transfer service users from beds to stretchers, chairs to chairs, or similar, both in and out of hospital and medical/commercial flights.
* Keep the ambulance safe, clean, and tidy.


Successful Candidates Will Have

* Full UK driving licence.
* Experience in a care, security, prison or public service background.
* Commitment to patient care and ability to build rapport with patients.
* Effective communication skills, especially in emotional and difficult circumstances.
* Calm, considerate, careful driver with no more than six penalty points on the licence.
* Natural flair for teamwork and collaboration.
* Physical fitness for patient handling and occasional restraint.
* Ability to problem‑solve and identify changes in patients’ behaviour in demanding situations.
