The HSEQ Superintendent provides HSEQ advice to Fleet Groups and Vessels as required using their professional knowledge, onboard experience, and implementing and maintaining the certifications of the business to the requirements of the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention, ISO Standards, and TMSA Requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Implementing International Safety Management (ISM) Code and conducting shipboard audits to achieve and maintain accreditation in accordance with legislative requirements.
* Ensuring compliance with ISM, TMSA, ISO Standards, Company Safety Management System (SMS) for Ship Management Offices and Fleet.
* Providing audit functions for internal and external businesses according to the Company’s Management System requirements.
* Assisting with UDE investigations, recording details, and preparing associated reports.
* Preparing accident/incident statistics as required by Line Manager and Senior Management.
* Coordinating the preparation of Quarterly and Annual HSEQ Reports.
* Analyzing health and safety statistics per client requirements.
* Conducting Behaviour Based Safety observations, analysis, and feedback reporting.
* Responding to Safety Committee Meetings as required by Fleet Groups.
* Responding to the master’s review of the management system.
* Identifying documentation amendments to meet needs in the development of the Company’s Management System.
* Interpreting classification societies and flag state regulations related to the Company Safety Management System.
* Conducting HSEQ inductions for Senior Officers and briefings with visiting Senior Officers.
* Coordinating and preparing Company emergency exercises.
* Performing other duties as required by Senior Management.
* Interviewing sea staff recruits within their expertise areas as requested.
* Assisting with responses to new business tenders.
* Supporting the training of office personnel for external audits.
* Attending and contributing to worldwide seminars conducted by the Company.
* Occasional business travel as required.
* Participating as a Member of the Casualty Response Team in emergencies.
* Undertaking other relevant tasks as assigned.
Candidate Requirements
* HND or equivalent experience in a related discipline.
* Deck or Engineer Officer (Class II).
* NEBOSH Diploma or Diploma in Safety Management.
* Experience working with Marine/Shipping entities in an HSEQ/Compliance role.
* Experience at sea as a Senior Deck Officer or Senior Marine Engineer.
* Demonstrable experience with health and safety systems.
* Experience in running health and safety training programs.
* Experience working with TMSA standards and audit practices.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Strong analytical and organizational skills.
* Extensive experience with MS Office packages.
