About The Role

Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic and experienced Construction Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar and Cleveland.

In this role you will work with several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, supporting Teesside’s decarbonisation objectives.


What you'll be doing

* Lead the project team and manage the supply chain to deliver section of works to time, cost and quality targets and standards.
* Ensure safety targets and standards are achieved and maintained by communicating safety with passion and credibility to inspire and lead the project team.
* Foster a continuous improvement culture by actively seeking input from all project team members and implementing safety improvements.
* Actively engage with the customer to understand and deliver their key sustainability objectives.
* Promote sustainable solutions across all operations, particularly in the management of Waste, Energy and Water.
* Lead effective community engagement plans and skills programmes where required.
* Ensure project plans and schedules are robust, optimise resources and timescales, and are communicated to the project team.
* Manage subcontractors, monitor attendance and progress, and provide instruction and support to meet contractual requirements.
* Collaborate with internal/external design teams to meet project deadlines under supervision where required.
* Appreciate commercial drivers within the construction process and incorporate these into decision making, working with the Project Surveyor.
* Keep the Project Manager or Contract Manager informed of progress, financial and time risks, and identify any additional work.
* Assist with people management and resourcing of the project.
* Support customer relationship management during delivery, including change management and decision making to manage expectations.
* Ensure adherence to Company and Divisional procedures and policies, including the Process Operating Model.
* Address defects and post-completion issues to maintain a positive customer relationship.


Who we're looking for

* Previous Construction Management experience within the relevant industry.
* Effective communication and planning/organisation skills to deliver operational excellence and efficiency.
* Strong leadership with experience in leading teams and influencing others to meet targets.
* Financial awareness to meet targets and a commitment to improving safety and sustainability performance.
* Appropriate and valid CSCS card.
* A relevant professional qualification (e.g., APM) and a relevant technical qualification are desirable.
* Experience of Lean Construction principles and Lean practitioner training are desirable.
